Building an SG guitar kit from Leo Jaymz proved to be an invaluable experience in understanding the relationship between education and hands-on learning. Despite having prior DIY and crafting experience, I encountered challenges during the build process, highlighting the importance of specific, practical knowledge. The second build allowed me to apply lessons learned from the first attempt, resulting in a much-improved instrument. This project demonstrated that while theoretical education is essential, it cannot replace the value of hands-on experience. The pride and accomplishment I felt from creating something with my own hands further emphasized the significance of practical learning in personal growth and development.
Do I miss technical work? If I'm building and helping to maintain an environment where people feel valued, challenged, and fulfilled, then no, I don't miss it for a day. Building high-performing teams that love their work is immensely gratifying.
